COPUOS: Space Colonization

NOVICE COMMITTEE

The United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space focuses on the governance of space exploration and the use of space to benefit all of society in terms of peace, development, and security. As environmental and violent crises grow increasingly frequent and extreme, many are looking towards current research in order to find new habitable zones in the stars for an alternative future. With the creation of the U.S. Space Force, continuing rocket testing from SpaceX, and NASA’s rover Curiosity landing on Mars last May, clear global guidelines are needed. This committee will address aspects of space habitation, resources and alliances, and whether or not space exploration should be a private or government endeavor. We hope to encourage delegates to create innovative yet realistic solutions to the unanswered questions about the final frontier.
